NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center used their Mars Orbiter Laser Altimeter topographic data (~640 million elevation measurements) to create a near-global digital elevation model (DEM). This DEM was used to create a colorized shaded relief at 128ppd (463m/p). Because the 128ppd version did not cover the poles, the global 64ppd DEM was used for those regions (above 88 latitude and below -88 latitude). Purple is low and white is high. Total global elevation range is approximately -8,200 meters minimum and 21,229 meters maximum. Elevations above 9000 meters are found only on the larger volcanos.
