NASA&#39;s Goddard Space Flight Center used their Mars Orbiter Laser Altimeter topographic data (~640 million elevation measurements) to create a near-global digital elevation model (DEM). This DEM was used to create a colorized shaded relief at 128ppd (463m/p). Because the 128ppd version did not cover the poles, the global 64ppd DEM was used for those regions (above 88 latitude and below -88 latitude). Purple is low and white is high. Total global elevation range is approximately -8,200 meters minimum and 21,229 meters maximum. Elevations above 9000 meters are found only on the larger volcanos. Mars Odyssey THEMIS IR Day image mosaic was created by Arizona State University at 100 m/p and released in Aug. 2014. It is semi-controlled and thus may not match perfectly to the MOLA hillshade.</Abstract>
